# Can a chariot beat two advisors and two elephants?

## Why one advisor matters so much

An advisor fills a palace point, which removes a mating square and gives the general somewhere to shelter. With two, the chariot cannot construct a net; with one, the general runs out of points. The second advisor is worth far more than the first.

## What follows for your trades

Strong players will give a soldier to win an advisor without hesitating, because it converts a drawn endgame into a won one. Conversely, if you are defending, keeping both advisors is worth material — a soldier down with two advisors often beats a soldier up with one.
