# Can one general check the other?

These answers restate the rules implemented by our open-source engine, which follows the WXF laws and is regression-tested against the official 110-diagram repetition casebook. ## Where the confusion comes from

Because some rule summaries describe the general as able to capture along the file, people expect a check. In practice the effect shows up differently: your opponent finds that certain moves are simply refused, and a piece between the generals turns out to be frozen.

## What it does do

It removes a file from the enemy general's options permanently, and it pins whatever stands between them. Both are significant — the first wins endgames and the second wins pieces — but neither is a check.
