# Can you move twice in a row in xiangqi?

## No compound moves exist

Unlike castling in chess, which moves two pieces in a single turn, every xiangqi move relocates exactly one piece. Even a capture is one piece moving to one point and removing whatever was there. There is nothing resembling a combined move anywhere in the rules.

## Why this keeps the game countable

Strict alternation is part of why xiangqi calculation feels concrete: every line you calculate is a clean sequence of single moves, one per side, with no special-case moves to remember partway through a combination.
