# How quickly should two chariots mate a bare general?

## The method

Bring one chariot to control a rank the general could retreat to, then check with the other. As long as the two chariots are working on adjacent ranks rather than duplicating coverage, the general runs out of safe points almost immediately.

## The one mistake to avoid

Checking before the second chariot's coverage is actually in place just pushes the general to the remaining open point and wastes a move. Confirm both chariots' coverage first, exactly as with any other mate, and only check once the net is complete.
