# Is stalemate a draw in xiangqi?

## Consequences at the board

- When *you* are the one running low on moves, be careful about blocking your own pieces in.

## How often it actually happens

Less often than the rule's importance suggests. Generals usually have a point, and soldiers can usually step forward. It matters most in bare endgames and in composed problems, where forcing it is a real technique.

Its main effect is indirect: knowing the resource does not exist changes how both sides evaluate every simplification.
