# What happens if a piece is accidentally displaced in xiangqi?

## Why this is easy in xiangqi

Pieces are flat discs sitting on intersections rather than filling squares, so displacement is more common than in chess, but reconstruction is usually easy: a scoresheet or a spectator can confirm the position in seconds. ## When it becomes a dispute

If the players disagree about where a piece stood and no record settles it, a tournament arbiter reconstructs the position from the scoresheets of both players or, if that fails, rules on the balance of evidence. This is a procedural matter, not a rules violation by either side.
