# What should you do if your opponent keeps checking you in xiangqi?

## What to actually watch for

Make sure each of your replies is a real, legal answer to the check, not a move that accidentally shifts your general somewhere newly vulnerable. Beyond that, resist the urge to force a change yourself; the obligation to vary belongs to your opponent, not to you.

## When to actually worry

If the checks are not repeating the same position, or if a different threat is building behind them, this is not perpetual check at all, just an ordinary attack that happens to include checks. Treat it as a genuine attack until you have confirmed the position is actually recurring.
