Are xiangqi endgames easier than chess endgames?
These answers restate the rules implemented by our open-source engine, which follows the WXF laws and is regression-tested against the official 110-diagram repetition casebook. Where an answer refers to a specific position, that position lives on the linked reference page, where the build verifies it against the engine before publishing.
Direct answer
Generally yes. Three reasons: the general is stuck on nine points, so covering its escapes is quick; stalemate is a loss, so the defender's last swindle does not exist; and there is no promotion, so there are no races to a new queen to calculate.
What replaces the difficulty
The defensive structure. Whether the defender has two advisors or one decides whole classes of endgame, and that judgement is genuinely subtle — a lone chariot draws against a full defence and wins against a broken one, with no material difference between the two positions at all.
What still has to be learned
The basic mates, and the material table: what forces mate and what does not. A lone cannon cannot mate, which is the kind of fact that decides a game and cannot be derived at the board. That is an afternoon's work and it pays for itself immediately.

Are there tablebases?
Yes, for small material counts, and they are perfect within their range.
Do xiangqi endgames draw often?
The ones with intact advisors and elephants do. Broken defences usually lose.
